Before we launch into our final post of the 12 Days of Trading 2021, we’d like to thank all of you in our growing client community for your support and feedback throughout the year, and seasons greetings to all.
On Monday we asked how Father Christmas was able to visit so many households in such a short period of time. Such a feat requires detailed local knowledge of every town, island and village on the planet. As with your average equity trader, his day begins in the most easterly regions of the Pacific Ocean, somewhere near the New Zealand Stock Exchange in Wellington, and ends almost 24 hours later at a place very close to the South Pacific Stock Exchange in Fiji.
Just as Saint Nick needs to be fully up to speed with timezones, border customs and recent changes to local air traffic regulations, so too must the trader be able to keep pace with opening hours, alternative venues and local rules. If you swap the mince pies for the al desko bacon sarnie you can see the parallels. To help with this challenge, big xyt will very soon be launching the online Global Exchanges Directory, a completely free service to the trading community.
Accessible through a website and easy to use, atlas-based navigation, the Directory will show the major primary and alternative trading venues available in each region and most countries. It will be packed full of useful information about the holiday calendar, trading times and daylight savings periods and key data such as local currency information and MIC codes.
The Global Exchange Directory is a collaboration between big xyt and the students of Cambridge University in the UK through their Cambridge Consulting Network, a non-profit student society that helps enterprises big and small while giving valuable vocational experience to the students. Our CCN colleagues worked hard to research the information requirements and design the structure for the website and we are very grateful for their help.
big xyt will manage the Directory by harnessing the power of its reference data engine for frequent updates. There are over 90 equity trading venues in the initial scope, and depending on the use and popularity of the tool, we will add more venues and information as time goes by. We would love to hear your suggestions and contributions to ensure that the service stays relevant and comprehensive.
